With reference to your letter No. 1343 dated the 24th September 1920, I have the honour to inform you that I have received papers from the Hon'ble Agents for the lotteries certifying that I am entitled to a pension of £230 per annum.
The amount of this pension has been computed under the general rule which is applicable to officers who have discharged their duties with diligence, fidelity, and to the satisfaction of the Head of their Department, whereas I expected a higher rate would have been granted under the rule whereby the Governor of Hong Kong in Council has power to reward an Officer for having rendered services beyond the usual scope of that which he was paid to perform.
